ramblings of a lunatic

cs2 and uefn

today was a pretty crazy day for gaming. counter-strike 2 was announced along with unreal engine for fortnite coming out, and i think it would be great to talk about it.

counter-strike 2

counter-strike is already a very well established formula, so even small changes shake up the meta drastically. the new smoke grenades allow for a lot more tactical opportunity, being able to blast a smoke out of your way and shoot someone behind it really helps give an extra dimension to your strategies.

something that struck me as odd is calling this game counter-strike 2 and not csgo 2. whatever the reason behind that might be it is nice to have dota 2, team fortress 2, and counter-strike 2 all having the same structure.

cs2 will probably take a while before it reaches a balanced state again and i'm excited to see it evolve into something even greater.

unreal engine for fortnite

this one is kinda crazy. it seems like epic is creating a roblox of its own. even with the previous version of creative, you could do some pretty crazy stuff, but now being able to use the entirety of the unreal engine? that is something entirely crazier. i think the big advantages of roblox were shared cosmetics, handled multiplayer, and microtransactions, and as far as i know, fortnite does all 3.

roblox is so far ahead at the moment, but this is quite a bold move and i could see roblox falling off because of this.
