is english an optimal language for computing? english really comprises of a relatively small number of unique characters. other languages like chinese have thousands of characters. because of this, english seems like a better language for computing as you save a lot of bytes, and in a time where memory was important to conserve, this could be a massive advantage. even other languages like spanish or french have other accents that need to be accounted for, but english fits nicely into 7 bits.
